BNQ certifies first batch of reusable masks for use in the workplace
Quebec City, June 17, 2021 - EcoUniform, in partnership with Au Noir, Chemise Empire and the BNQ, is proud to announce the release of the first batch of reusable masks for the workplace certified by the Bureau de Normalisation du Québec (BNQ) and meeting CNESST standards after months of development.
This important announcement follows the launch of the certification program for the performance of non-medical masks for use in the workplace, which was developed by the BNQ at the request of the Commission des normes, de l'équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST).
Montreal-based EcoUniform (9398-9341 Quebec Inc.) has received the first BNQ certification for a batch of 15,000 100-cycle reusable masks manufactured in Quebec by Chemise Empire, which were found to meet the requirements of BNQ Certification Booklet 1922-900 Masks for the Workplace, published in December 2020.
The BNQ 1922-900 certification program, which is voluntary, is attracting a lot of interest from mask manufacturers and distributors who want to have their products recognized as compliant for use in the workplace.
At the yellow or green level, as is currently the case in the regions of Québec, the wearing of a procedure mask or one certified by the BNQ is recommended for both indoor and outdoor work when interactions take place at a distance of less than two metres without physical barriers. In orange or red levels, it becomes mandatory to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 and its variants.
Employers, workers and consumers will be able to easily recognize the certified masks offered for sale since the manufacturer has chosen to affix the distinctive marking, which includes the BNQ mark of conformity, to a label attached to the mask. This first BNQ-certified mask will be sold by the distributor via www.ecouniform.com and www.aunoir.com
"The certification of the first batch of reusable masks, within a short period of time after the publication of the leaflet, makes it possible to diversify the protection offer for Quebec workers while guaranteeing the quality and performance of the products available. Thank you to our partners who made this innovative program possible and congratulations to the first company to demonstrate the compliance of its reusable masks. »
Jean Rousseau, BNQ Senior Director
"This announcement is very good news for all Quebec workplaces and a fine example of collaboration between the CNESST, its partners and the BNQ. From now on, quality masks, evaluated according to the highest health and environmental standards, will be produced by a local company and can be proudly used by our workers. »
Jean Boulet, Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Solidarity and Minister responsible for the Mauricie region
"The CNESST is once again demonstrating its leadership in prevention, and at the end of this initiative, workplaces can count on masks that meet the best quality standards in terms of occupational health and safety while respecting sustainable development objectives. »
Manuelle Oudar, Chair of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer of the CNESST
"After months of development, EcoUNIFORM is very proud to have met the requirements of the CNESST and to be able to market the ECO99 mask certified by the BNQ. In addition to being highly safe and effective, this mask is an eco-responsible choice that reduces the quantity of masks thrown away in the rubbish. We are convinced that it will meet the expectations of a wide range of customers.
Jonathan Sibony, President of EcoUNIFORM, Chemise Empire & Au Noir
